Holidaymakers should not rely on the EHIC card says Direct Line

One of the top travel insurance providers Direct Line is warning holidaymakers and travelers the European Health Insurance Card is no substitute for a travel insurance policy when traveling aboard.

The European Health Insurance Card has replaced the E111 forms, and yes these forms are vital for individuals when traveling aboard to other countries in Europe, but they only cover you against basic healthcare requirements. They don’t cover you for repatriation and long-term treatment.

Always travel with adequate holiday insurance cover to protect you against any losses just in case the worst happens when you’re on holiday abroad.
